Speaker 1:

Is there a major life transition benching you? I know you may be asking what's next? What's my purpose? What if? Because I've asked those too. Welcome to the Start your Comeback Podcast. I'm Toni Thrash, a certified life coach, and I want to share the tools and practical steps to help you create a winning game plan to move into your new adventure. Hi, welcome back. You are listening to episode 54. 54.

Speaker 1:

In case you're new here today, I wanted to just give a little bit of a reminder of what this podcast is all about. My prayer is that this podcast is proven to be a beacon of hope for those of you who are navigating the tumultuous waters of divorce. It doesn't just have to be divorce, it could be retirement or empty nesting. But I know, for this past summer and up until just a few weeks ago even I've talked a lot about divorce. I thought it might just be a great time to come on and give us just a little bit of a reminder. I had my friend Dana on a couple of months ago and she was talking about shame and disappointment that we feel when we walk through divorce Because, as you know, it's those two are the most prevalent emotions experienced by any of us going through divorce, so I wanted this podcast to provide a safe place for you, my listeners, to acknowledge and explore these complex feelings. I'm hoping you can see and understand the emotional roller coaster that often accompanies divorce. It is entirely natural to feel a range of emotions, including sadness, anger, regret, shame and, of course, disappointment. These are the norms for anyone going through the transition of divorce and, quite frankly, they might apply to any transition that you are walking through.

Speaker 1:

But I wanted to talk about the practical strategies for coping with just shame and disappointment. The first one is to seek support because, let me tell you, when you are in over your head with shame and disappointment, reaching out to friends, family or any of those support groups that you are part of, it can provide that sense of belonging and understanding, and understanding being the key because they've walked through it as well. The second thing I want to remind you is to have some self-compassion. I'm hard on myself. I can just talk so negative to myself and just beat myself up, and I'm having to learn and just beat myself up, and I'm having to learn just to have some sort of self-compassion and treat myself with kindness and understanding to help get rid of those feelings of shame and yes, after 10 years of being divorced, I still have to talk to myself kindly and still have to relearn this over and over and over again and then finally challenging all those negative thoughts and I literally just told you I have them, but when we can identify them and then challenge those thoughts, that helps us shift our perspective and improve our emotional well-being. And, let me just say it again, counseling it's always the right thing.

Speaker 1:

Another thing I wanted you to know today, if this is your first time listening in to the podcast, is kind of give you an idea of what life coaching is and isn't. You see, life coaching is a collaborative process that empowers you to identify and achieve your goals. It involves providing support, guidance and accountability to help you overcome obstacles and live a more fulfilling life. You see, when we expect those obstacles, then it's easier to plan around them and to work through them. The other thing is, life coaches do not give advice, but what we do is to act as a facilitator, helping you discover your own solutions and develop personalized strategies that help you accomplish where you want to go next. And then, finally, it's a partnership, and it's a partnership that I love because it means that we're trusting one another, we have open communication and we have mutual respect for one another. We're focused on the future and it's so important to have some clearly defined, reachable goals and to build that game plan to reach them. A life coach can help you recognize and name any obstacles that may occur to keep you from reaching those goals.

Speaker 1:

But my favorite thing is to build a game plan. We create this game plan for the future for you Because, as you know, as you navigate the complexities of divorce or any transition, for that future for you, because, as you know, as you navigate the complexities of divorce or any transition for that matter, it is essential to have a clear vision for the future. I want to help you create a personalized game plan that outlines your goals, your values and your aspirations. Let's break that down very quickly. The first thing setting achievable goals, breaking those larger goals into smaller, more manageable steps, gives us an increased motivation and progress and gives us a win, and sometimes, when we're in the middle of a transition, we just need a small win. The second thing is is we've got to identify our own values and our own priorities, like what's next, what's most important? Because once we understand your core values, then that helps guide the decision-making and align those actions with your personal beliefs. Also, third, it builds a support network, because once you surround yourself with supportive individuals, they can provide encouragement and accountability. And then finally I talked about it last week it's just taking action, taking that one small step forward, because when we're consistent in our effort and we persevere, even when it looks dark and even when we're afraid, these are our keys to achieving goals and moving forward. I just wanted to give you a little bit of encouragement. If you're new here today, I would love to hear from you. You can send me a fan mail here on the podcast and I would be happy to reach out to you and just talk about it.

Speaker 1:

But life's transitions, whatever those are, they can be some of the most trying times of our lives. This podcast, because I've heard from you I've heard from several of you, lots of you in fact that it's been a valuable resource for you when you're experiencing divorce. I've had several divorce care groups reach out and share the episodes with their participants who have found themselves in this transition. I've even spoken at a divorce care meeting by addressing the emotional challenges, explaining the role of life coaching and emphasizing the importance of creating your game plan, I have provided listeners with the tools and support needed to rebuild their lives and embrace a brighter future. It's important to have a life coach. Why? Because we're on the bench with you. Sometimes a life coach can see the whole picture and can produce a step-by-step game plan to get you off the bench and back into your life.

Speaker 1:
