Finding Strength in Thanksgiving's Challenges

Toni Thrash Episode 61

I would love to hear from you! Send a text!

What happens when Thanksgiving feels more like a day of reflection rather than celebration? Join me, Toni Thrash, as we explore the nuances of navigating a holiday that can be both comforting and challenging. As a certified life coach, I'm here to remind you that just showing up today is a victory worth celebrating. We'll embark on a journey of gratitude, encouraging you to take a moment to jot down five things you're thankful for and share one with me. While Thanksgiving may look different for everyone, together, we'll find the joy hidden in our unique experiences.

In this heartfelt episode, I share the evocative poem "For When People Ask" by Rosemary Watola Trommer, which perfectly encapsulates the complex dance of feeling both devastation and joy at once. It's a powerful reminder to embrace our emotions and see them as an opportunity for deeper understanding. As you listen, remember that every challenge is a chance to start your comeback. Connect with me on Instagram to share your reflections or simply to have a companion on this transformative journey. So, let's turn those pages of uncertainty into a story of resilience and gratitude.

Speaker 1:

Is there a major life transition benching you? I know you may be asking what's next? What's my purpose? What if? Because I've asked those too.

Speaker 1:

Welcome to the Start your Comeback Podcast. I'm Toni Thrash, a certified life coach, and I want to share the tools and practical steps to help you create a winning game plan to move into your new adventure. Welcome back. You're listening to episode seven of the Start your Comeback podcast. Happy Thanksgiving.

Speaker 1:

I wanted to quickly share. I know this day may be hard for you in many ways, but here you are. I want to encourage you that being here on Thanksgiving day is progress. What you thought was impossible is right here in front of you. This is a big step. Congratulations are in order. You, this is a big step. Congratulations are in order. You see, you didn't have to show up or put forth any effort, but you did. I want you to make a quick list of five things you are thankful for right now. Go ahead, jot five things down Now. I want you to DM me one of those five things so that you have someone to celebrate with you in your gratefulness. It doesn't matter if it's your only day off or it's a half day off. Grateful If you're having pizza for Thanksgiving lunch. You are still having lunch. It doesn't matter that it looks different, that you feel different or that it even sounds different.

Speaker 1:

I want to share a poem with you today as a way to remind us to have a different perspective. I will leave the link to her website in the show notes. It is part of her collection All the Honey. The title of the poem is for when People Ask, by Rosemary Watola Trommer.

Speaker 1:

I want a word that means okay and not okay. More than that, a word that means devastated and stunned with joy. I want the word that says I feel it all all at once. That heart is not like a songbird singing only one note at a time, more like a Tuvan throat singer, able to sing both a drone and simultaneously two or three harmonics high above it. Sound the Tuvan say that gives the impression of wind swirling among rocks rocks. The heart understands. Swirl. How the churning of opposite feelings weaves through us like an insistent breeze, leads us wordlessly deeper into ourselves, blesses us with the paradox, so we might walk more openly into this world so rife with devastation, this world so ripe with joy.

Speaker 1:

Happy Thanksgiving. Hey, thanks for listening. I don't take it for granted that you're here. You didn't listen by mistake. If you want to reach out, you can DM me on Instagram at Tony Thrash Until next week. Remember, there's still time left on the clock. Let's get you off the bench to start your comeback. I want to give a special shout out to Country Club for the original music. You can find them on Instagram at Country Club you.
