Speaker 1:Welcome to the Start your Comeback podcast. I'm Toni Thrash, a certified life coach, and I want to share the tools and practical steps to help you create a winning game plan to move into your new adventure. Hi, welcome back. You are listening to episode 64. Can you believe we are just seven days away from Christmas? However, if you're finding it very difficult right now and are just hoping to get to January 1st, then I hope this episode will give you some sort of direction and maybe help you develop a game plan for the new year. I know we're not there yet, but I'm a planner and I'm already working on my resolutions for the new year. I know we're not there yet, but I'm a planner and I'm already working on my resolutions for the new year. What am I going to be doing in 2025? So I thought maybe you might need a glimmer of hope as well. You see, resolutions are those things we say but never really do so. Today, I'd like to talk about how we can redefine those resolutions.
Speaker 1:This is going to be a three-week series on redefining our resolutions for the new year. Maybe you're like me and you make these huge resolutions and you get to the end of January and you barely remember you even made them. Wait, where did I write those down? Barely remember you even made them. Wait, where did I write those down? Here's what's happened to me. I would get so gung-ho and excited about mine, jot them down on a piece of paper and then look at them and go what have I done? And I would be so overwhelmed it was too much, it was way too big, and I would simply just fade away into the darkness and then shame myself because I couldn't do any of them. So to redefine them, I learned to make them and then break them down into chunks, with some action steps to get me to the end goal. It was way less stressful and I found myself having success with them because each chunk was a step in the right direction and it gave me a sense of accomplishment.
Speaker 1:You see, we are so happy to accomplish it right now. Let's get it done. We want it finished right now. We want to do the thing, but you see, we don't have the stamina of the right mindset to see it through. Let me explain. You see, we can do anything we put our minds to, but there has to be some follow through and there has to be some sacrifice.
Speaker 1:I set these big resolutions for the year and then gave up after a month because I saw no results. What this is where stamina and the right mindset come into play. You see, innate unhappiness derives from a sense of longing in constant opposition to our desire to be still. There are many places our hearts and minds desire to go and to reach for, yet our body remains stubborn and immovable. I want us to have a perspective shift. Let's redefine these resolutions, let's break them down, let's take a smarter, more effective way to reach our goals or resolutions, if you will.
Speaker 1:So, if you find yourself stuck between the desire and the discipline, here are some quick questions to begin asking yourself. Number one are you stuck? Number two are you afraid? Number three are you procrastinating? And maybe? Number four, you're unmotivated. And maybe, number five, you're even disorganized. And maybe you're all of those things. I know which ones I am.
Speaker 1:The important thing about now is we are just a few weeks away from January. If you've already written your resolutions down, then I want you to revisit them and take your time to reevaluate each one. You see, we are in a constant pursuit of the next best thing, yet stuck in the comfort of today. If you find yourself stuck, afraid, procrastinating, you get it all Anything along those lines. This is what separates you from where you are and where you want to go.
Speaker 1:I want to share three steps with you that I believe can help you overcome these challenges we face every minute of every day. Number one I want you to go back and answer each of those questions. Just let me remind you what they are. Are you stuck, afraid, procrastinating, unmotivated or disorganized, or all of the above? I want you to sit with each question and write out the obstacles you're seeing for each question. Be specific, hold nothing back. Be honest with yourself. For example, a common resolution is to exercise more, so list out those obstacles that will keep you from doing it. Number two Now, after you've mulled your resolutions over and can list out every possible obstacle, I want you to list them in order of importance to achieve.
Speaker 1:What is your timetable for accomplishing each of these resolutions? When you work with me as a coach, this is standard protocol. It's important to do this because some of the results are quicker to achieve than others, which gives us a wave of accomplishment. This is huge. And finally, number three, I want you to share your resolutions with the person you're closest to and help you see any other obstacles you might have missed. They will be good to help put them in order to achieve, because sometimes we're just blinded by what we don't see. And another person's eyes help us to see that, for example, losing weight may take the whole year, but buying that new computer might only take you three months of savings to achieve. See the difference.
Speaker 1:I want you to spend the next week working on these. Then I want you to come back next week and listen as I talk about the dream. It's okay to dream and I want you to dream, but we don't want the dream to distract you from the daily disciplines it takes to get you to reach your resolution. Listen, there are only about what? Seven days left of shopping. So get your shopping done and remember. Have fun out there, enjoy your family, make new memories, make new traditions and I'll see you next time. Hey, thanks for listening. I don't take it for granted that you're here. You didn't listen by mistake. If you want to reach out, you can DM me on Instagram at Tony Thrash Until next week.
